Around the World in 40 Days

We're getting ready to depart Oct. 15 for the vacation trip of a lifetime--Around the World in 40 Days! Actually it's 42. We'll begin this odyssey flying from San Francisco to Athens, Greece. From there we'll embark on the Star Clipper, a 4-masted sailing vessel that carries approximately 150 passengers plus crew.

We took this photo of the sister ship, Star Flyer, off the coast of Turkey during a one-week cruise in 2004 from Istanbul down the coast of Turkey and through the Greek Islands to Athens.

This lovely "megayacht" will be our home for 5 1/2 weeks while we cross the Mediterranean Sea, the Suez Canal, the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean, and the Andaman Sea. We'll visit 14 cities in 6 countries (Greece 3, Egypt 4, Oman 1, India 2, Sri Lanka 1, and Thailand 3), and we'll disembark at Phuket, Thailand Nov. 22.

Then we'll fly to Bangkok for 3 days on our own, and return home Nov. 25 via Hong Kong (our 15th city and 7th country). We arrive back in SFO Nov. 25, two days before Thanksgiving. Thankfully, Kitten and Chris are hosting Thanksgiving this year!

We hope you'll enjoy reading about our experiences and viewing some of the pictures we take along the way.
